I stopped watching the NBA years ago. Used to be a huge Jordan, Bird, Magic, Maravich and many more, fan. The list was long. Then the kneeling, the BLM signage, capped off by LeBron throwing Stephen Curry to the ground in the final seconds of a play-off game.. right in front of a ref. No call. The political grandstanding. The flopping. Enough was enough. I played in college. Was seriously disappointing.
In contrast, you have the PGA Tour. On Saturday, Justin Thomas called a penalty stroke on himself. It was a very close call on a rule violation that… no one saw, no one would ever have known. Honor. Honesty.
Then boom. Sunday. A putt for the win. In a playoff that more than likely would never have had to happen had he not called the penalty stroke. Justin, you did us all proud. With the outstanding win, yes. With the outstanding character, definitely.
This dancing music has my full endorsement.
It’s fascinating how sports can mirror societal values and personal integrity. Justin Thomas’s self-penalty is a shining example of honesty and sportsmanship, which is truly inspiring. The contrast between the NBA and PGA Tour highlights how different leagues prioritize different aspects of the game. While the NBA’s focus on social issues can be seen as using their platform for good, it’s also understandable why some fans might feel alienated. Do you think athletes should use their influence to address societal problems, or should they remain neutral? Personally, I believe there’s a balance to be struck, but it’s a complex issue. What’s your perspective on this?
